About

Psychotherapy With Me

Feeling overwhelmed by life at the moment? Want to feel more like yourself again? Whatever you’re struggling with, let’s get you feeling more empowered in the life you’re living.

I just want therapy
I listen to music a lot
I'm a musician

My approach is person-centred and relational, which means I trust that you are the expert in your own life and I work alongside you to create the meaningful and lasting change that you need. Rather than working on one “problem” in isolation, I work with the whole unique person, offering a space where all parts of you can feel welcomed and understood. Despite what my name suggests, you don't need to use music at all. Most (if not all) sessions will involve talking and exploring any issues you are struggling with. You can see some issues I commonly work with below.

Are you someone who listens to music a lot? Maybe there is certain music that brings back strong memories for you, or maybe you use music to regulate your mood (e.g. you listen to music to relax or hype you up for exercise!). You might be interested in learning how to use the music you're listening to in order to support wellness long after sessions with me finish. These are all things we can explore during your sessions with me.

Being a musician is challenging for lots of reasons. Maybe your career is going well but other aspects of your life are presenting challenges. Before becoming a psychotherapist I trained as a classical musician, so I know mental health support for musicians is lacking to say the least. I may not be able to change that by myself, but I am here to listen and help.

Areas I often work with

Figuring out who you are can be a wild ride. But the more you understand yourself, the more choices you have in living a more meaningful and fulfilling life. I can’t wait to explore who you are and how you want to engage with the world.

A queer-affirming, trans-affirming space where the euphoria, grief, and everything in between can be explored at your own pace, without judgement.

Fallen into a world you don't recognise? Let's take some time to reorient and process the pain together.

Feel like your thoughts just won’t stop? Let’s explore how you can feel calmer and more aligned with who you are.

Don't think you're all that special? Want to believe and trust in yourself more? Let's build authentic and lasting confidence together.

Not connecting to people in the way you want to? Let's work to build a supportive community around you that you can feel totally yourself with.

Exhausted or overwhelmed with the demands of life? Let's work out how to find balance and empowerment.

On an emotional rollercoaster and want to get off now? Let's give these emotions the space they need and learn how to use the things you're already doing (such as listening to music) to process and regulate yourself in the moments when it all gets too much.

Ready to explore the ways you can better connect with the most important people in your life? Let's create space to move from conflict to connection.

FAQ's

Frequent Questions and Answers

No. In fact most sessions do not involve music at all!

I am a qualified psychotherapist and music psychologist, not a registered music therapist.

While music therapy typically involves creating music, singing, or playing instruments, my approach is psychotherapy that can use music as an emotional mirror and therapeutic catalyst.

I do not currently have any discounted sessions available.

I do hope to have some concessionary spaces in the future but in the mean time I can only offer the advertised session price.

I provide therapy for anyone over the age of 18. You do not have to have a mental health diagnosis, the therapy I offer is for anyone who feels that they may benefit from talking therapy.

In the initial session we can discuss your needs and work out if we will be a good fit. If it doesn’t feel like we are a good match then I will do my best to signpost you to other services.

During our 50 minute sessions, I will dedicate my time and expertise to developing an effective therapeutic relationship with you to support your emotional needs and concerns. I will provide you with the opportunity to safely express and explore any emotional difficulties within a non-judgemental and confidential relationship.

Person-centred approach offers you empathy, unconditional positive regard (I accept and value you), and congruence (I am myself and honest with you).

We believe in ‘actualising’ – the idea that you can reach your full potential and become your true self.

To find out more about person-centred psychotherapy visit the UKCP website.

I usually work in an open-ended way, checking in with you and regularly reviewing how sessions are progressing. If you would prefer to decide a set number of sessions with me, I am happy to support you with this. Just let me know when you get in contact with me.

I have a masters degree in Person-Centred and Experiential Psychotherapy. I also have a masters degree in Music and Music Psychology, which I use to inform the support I can offer. Click here to find out more about my qualifications and experience.

Currently I am only offering online sessions via Microsoft Teams. This means to work with me, you would need to have a quiet space available and the technology to engage in online sessions.

Please check back in the future if you are hoping for in-person sessions as this is subject to change.
